Course Syllabus – ATV (All Terrain Vehicles)
Ratio: 1 Machine: 3 Trainees: 1 Instructor
Duration: Refresher Course – 1 day
Up to 3 Experienced Operators – 1 day
Up to 3 Novice Operators – 2 days
Definition: Experienced = Operators with approx 6 months experience but no Certificate.
1. AIM
To train operators to bring them to the required standards of theoretical knowledge and practical skills whilst operating an All Terrain Vehicle.
2. ELEMENTS
2.1 Knowledge
On completion of the training, operators will have an understanding of:-
2.1.1 Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant legislation and guidelines
2.1.2 Major components and preventative maintenance
2.1.3 Pre-operating and daily checks
2.1.4 Factors affecting equipment mobility
2.1.5 Operating safety rules and procedures, including environmental considerations
2.1.6 Factors affecting equipment stability
2.2. Skill
On completion of the training, operators will be capable of undertaking the following to the required standard:-
2.2.1 Pre-operating and daily checks
2.2.2 Start and stop the motive unit
2.2.3 Travel forward and reverse using all gear ratios as applicable to site conditions
2.2.4 Travelling in rough terrain, and elements
2.2.5 Post operative checks, refuelling and procedures
