BATTERY SAFETY TRAINING
Ratio: 1 Machine: 6 Trainees: 1 Instructor
Duration: 1 day
1. Aim
To train operators in the safe procedures of battery handling on lift trucks and other vehicles in accordance with operator safety training legislation.
2. Elements
Operators will receive Battery Handling training on the following elements:
2.1 Their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974
2.2 Safety rules and regulations including PPE
2.3 Pre-shift checks
2.4 Practical checks on battery to include hydrometer readings
2.5 Theoretical tests
3. Knowledge
On completion of Battery Handling training, operators will have an understanding of:
3.1 Their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974
3.2 Safety rules and regulations
3.3 The importance of pre-shift checks
3.4 How to check batteries safely
4. Skills
On completion of Battery Handling Training , operators will be able to carry out the following to the required standard:
4.1 Pre-shift checks
4.2 Identify batteries
4.3 Correct procedures for checking firstly visually, then
4.4 The use of the hydrometer to check specific gravity
4.5 Be aware of their responsibilities when handling batteries
