Duration:      Refresher Course – 1 day

                        3 Experienced Operators – 3 days

                        2 Experienced Operators – 2 days

                        3 Novice Operators – 5 days

                        2 Novice Operators – 4 days

                        1 Novice Operator – 3 days

Definition:     Experienced = Operators with approx 6 months experience but no certificate

Ratio:             3 Operators:              1 Instructor    :           1 Machine

1.         Aim

To teach potential operators relevant theoretical knowledge and practical skills to safety operate a Straddler Carrier Crane to recognized industrial standards.

2.         Objectives

By the end of the course the successful candidates will:

2.1  Have retained the required knowledge to be able to pass the associated knowledge test

2.2  Be able to efficiently inspect the machine and pass the pre-use check examination

2.3  Have demonstrated relevant skills to be able to pass the basic skills test

3.2       Operators Safety Code

3.3       Battery maintenance and charging procedures

3.4.     Pre-use checks

3.5       Factors affecting stability

3.6       Motive controls

3.7       Hydraulic controls

 3.8       Manoeuvring in open and confined areas

  3.9       Stacking at different levels

  3.10    Destacking with laden and unladen pallets and containers

  3.11    Loading and unloading

4.         Knowledge

On completion of training candidates will have a theoretical understanding of the following:-

On completion of training the candidate will be able to:-          

5.1       Drive and operate the container handling truck safely and efficiently

5.2       Stack and destack at various levels in a safe and competent manner

5.3       Carry out pre-use checks to ensure the equipment is in a safe condition

5.4       Carry out battery maintenance and charging procedures

5.5       Load and unload vehicles
