Refresher Training

1. AIM
To refresh operators who have previously trained on a Loading Shovel and/or certificated operators to update their operating knowledge and practical skills.
Experienced Operator Training
Duration :
3 Days [27 periods]
2 Days [18 periods]
Ratio : 3 Delegates: 1 Instructor : 1 Machine
2 Delegates : 1 Instructor : 1 Machine
1. AIM
To give the operator, who has little previous experience, Loading Shovel training to bring him to the required standards of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Novice Training
Duration : 5 Days [45 periods]
Ratio : 3 Delegates : 1 Instructor : 1 Machine
1. AIM
To give the novice operator, who has little or no previous experience, Loading Shovel training to bring him to the required standards of theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
2. ELEMENTS
The Loading Shovel course will comprise theoretical and practical instruction covering the following:
2.1 Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act, 1974; PUWER 98 & LOLER 98
2.2 Operators Safety Code
2.3 Pre-use Checks
2.4 Factors affecting stability
2.5 Motive controls
2.6 Hydraulic controls
3. KNOWLEDGE
On completion of the Loading Shovel training, operators will know:
3.1 Their responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act, PUWER & LOLER Regulations
3.2 Operators Safety Code
3.3 Pre-use Checks
3.4 Factors affecting stability
3.5 Motive & Hydraulic controls
4. SKILLS
On completion of the Loading Shovel training, operators will be capable of undertaking the following to the required standard:
4.1 Conduct a risk assessment
4.2 Pre-shift checks
4.3 Start up and stop the motive unit
4.4 Travel forward and reverse using all gear ratios and ranges where applicable
4.5 Prepare the area and set up the machine to carry out normal work
4.6 Carry out normal machine operations to the acceptable standard
