1. AIM   

To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safely operate a skid steer loader.

2. ELEMENTS

The course will comprise of theoretical and practical instruction covering the following:

  • Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) PUWER 98 & LOLER 98.
  • Safe operator practices (company mobile plant rules if on customer premises)
  • Daily and weekly maintenance schedules
  • Identification of components and pre-start checks
  • Start-up procedure
  • Factors affecting stability
  • Motive and hydraulic controls
  • Manoeuvring in open and confined spaces (level and rough terrain)
  • Excavating with the bucket
  • Discharging materials at ground and full height levels
  • Travelling on inclines
  • General ground levelling with the bucket
  • Parking and post-stop checks
  • Safe use of specific attachments (where applicable)
