1. AIM
To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safely operate a skid steer loader.
2. ELEMENTS
The course will comprise of theoretical and practical instruction covering the following:
- Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) PUWER 98 & LOLER 98.
- Safe operator practices (company mobile plant rules if on customer premises)
- Daily and weekly maintenance schedules
- Identification of components and pre-start checks
- Start-up procedure
- Factors affecting stability
- Motive and hydraulic controls
- Manoeuvring in open and confined spaces (level and rough terrain)
- Excavating with the bucket
- Discharging materials at ground and full height levels
- Travelling on inclines
- General ground levelling with the bucket
- Parking and post-stop checks
- Safe use of specific attachments (where applicable)
