1. AIM
To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safely operate a commercial vehicle tail lift.
2. ELEMENTS
The course will comprise of theoretical and practical instruction covering the following:-
2.1 Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), PUWER 98 and LOLER 1998, Working at Heights Regulations and Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations
2.2 Safe operator practices
2.3 Daily and weekly maintenance schedules
2.4 Factors affecting stability
2.5 Motive and hydraulic controls
2.6 Mounting, dismounting from vehicle
2.7 Parking a vehicle
2.8 Lifting and lowering of the tail lift
2.9 Loading and unloading from the tail lift
2.10 Unfastening, fastening and stowing away the tail lift safely
2.11 Observing the Highway Code
2.12 Observing the working environment, suitable for loading and unloading
3. Knowledge
On successful completion of training, candidates will have a theoretical understanding on the importance of the following:-
