This Pallet Truck training course is suitable for novice and/ or experienced pedestrian truck operators. The course offers theroretical and practical knowledge to allow trainees to safely operate Pedestrian Truck Machinery. All trainees will be accredited to ITSSAR standards.

Pallet Truck Course Syllabus

ABA Workplace Transport Groups – Z1, Z2, Z3, Z4

Ratio: 1 Machine: 3 Trainees: 1 Instructor

Duration:

Pedestrian / Manual

Novice Operator 1 day

Experienced Operator ½ day

Refresh & Test ½ day

An experienced operator is one who has used the truck for approx 6 months but has never been trained or tested.

Note:  Course duration may need to be extended if the machine used during basic training has contra steering.

1. Aim

To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safely operate a Pallet Truck.

2. Elements

Operators will receive pedestrian truck training on the following elements:

2.1 Their responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974,PUWER 98 & LOLER 98

2.2 Operators Safety Code

2.3 Battery maintenance and charging procedures.

2.4 Pre-shift checks

2.5 Factors affecting stability

2.6 Motive controls

2.7 Hydraulic controls

2.8 Manoeuvring in open and confined areas

3. Knowledge

On completion of the Pallet Truck Training Course candidates will have a theoretical understanding of the following:

3.1 Responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974,PUWER 98 & LOLER 98

3.2 Operators safety code

3.3 Battery maintenance and charging procedures

3.4 Pre-Use checks

3.5 Factors affecting stability

4. Skills

On completion of the Pallet Truck Training Course the candidate will be able to:

4.1 Operate the truck safely and efficiently in open and confined areas

4.2 Carry out pre-use checks to ensure the equipment is in a safe condition.

4.3 Carry out battery maintenance and charging procedures.
