Safe Use of Safety Harness Syllabus

Course Duration:   1 day

Ratio:                          1 Instructor: 10 trainees –

In one group of 10 or 2 groups of 5

 

Aim:  To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to correctly wear the appropriate safety harness/equipment when working at height or on MEWPs/Scaffolding

Elements:  The Safe Use of Harnesscourse will comprise of theoretical and practical instruction covering the following:-

a. Responsibilities under the health and Safety Law

b. Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

c. The Provisional Use Of Work Equipment Regulations 1998

d. Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998

e. The Work At Height Regulations 2005

f. Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992

g. Records and Inspections

h. Safe Use of Harness and Lanyards/Fall Arrest systems

Knowledge: On completion of Safe use of Harness training  trainees will have a theoretical understanding of the following:-

a. Responsibilities under the Health and safety Law and relevant statutory legislation

b. Common causes of Falls at Height

c. Organisation and Planning of Work at Height

d. Selection of Work Equipment for Work at Height

e. Inspection of Work Equipment

f. Safety on working platforms

g. Personal Protective Equipment

h. Theoretic knowledge of methods of safe evacuation/recovery from heights.

Skill:   On completion of  Safe Use of Harness training the trainees will be able to:-

a. Check and inspect a Harness

b. Be aware of their responsibilities as regards to inspection

c. Correctly wear safety equipment

d. Record of safety checks on safety equipment

e. Circumstances, and methods adopted.
