1. AIM

To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge for correct signalling and slinger.

2. ELEMENTS

The course will compromise of theoretical and practical instruction covering following:

2.1   Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER 98, LOLER 98 & Safety Signs & Signals Regulations 1996

2.2   Risk assessments

2.3   Operators Safety Code

2.4   Pre-use checks on lifting accessories

3. KNOWLEDGE

On completion of training candidates will have a theoretical understanding of the following:

3.1    Responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER 98, LOLER 98 & Safety Signs & Signals Regulations 1996

3.2    Risk assessments

3.3    Operators safety code

3.4    Pre-use checks on lifting accessorises

3.5    Slinger duties

3.6    Signaller duties

4. SKILLS

 On completion of training the candidates will be to:

4.1             Carry out a risk assessment of the task to be undertaken

4.2             Ensure the working area is appropriately cordoned off

4.3             Carry out pre-use checks to ensure the lifting accessories are in a safe condition

4.4             Agree and use the signal code with lifting equipment operator and others who are              involved in the operation

4.5             Sling various loads using a variety of methods and lifting accessories

4.6             Set down various loads at pre-determined positions

4.7             Carry out checks on all lifting accessories used

4.8             Complete report sheet on any defects found

4.9             Return to storage all equipment and accessories used
