Tower Scaffold and Ladder Safety Course

 

Course Duration: 1 day

Ratio: 1 Instructor: 9 trainees

Aim: To provide the theoretical and practical knowledge to safely erect tower scaffolds and the safety when using ladders.

Elements: The course will comprise of theoretical and practical instruction covering the following:-

Responsibilities under the health and Safety Law
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
The Provisional Use Of Work Equipment Regulations 1998
Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
The Work At Height Regulations 2005
Basic Ladder Safety
Records and Inspections
Personal Protective Equipment
Correct erection of Tower scaffolds

Knowledge: On completion of training trainees will have a theoretical understanding of the following:-

Responsibilities under the Health and safety Law and relevant statutory legislation
Common causes of Falls at Height
Organisation and Planning of Work at Height
Selection of Work Equipment for Work at Height
Inspection of Work Equipment
Requirements for guard-rails, toe-boards, barriers and similar collective means of protection
Requirements for working platforms
Stability of working platforms
Safety on working platforms
Basic Ladder Safety
Causes of falls from ladders
Precautions when using and selecting ladders
Basic Ladder Construction
Overlap on Extendable Ladders
Records and Inspections and Maintenance of ladders
Safety when using ladders
Ladder Angles
Securing Ladders
Aluminium Towers – Safety Checks
Erecting the Tower
Tower Scaffold Inspections

Skill: On completion of training the trainees will be able to:-

Check and inspect Tower scaffold
Erect a Tower Scaffold
Dismantle a Tower Scaffold
Check and inspect ladders
Safely use ladders

Ideally a minimum of 3 candidates are required to safely erect a tower scaffold
